Shoreditch Town Hall

We worked with the Shoreditch Town Hall Trust on the ongoing refurbishment and redevelopment of the Grade 2 listed Shoredich Town Hall into a multi-purpose arts and creative industries hub. We have an ongoing interest in the adaptive reuse of civic buildings, in a period of significant asset transfer of many similar buildings into new community and commercial uses.

From strategic work on imagining the potential new uses for disused areas of the building, to detailed work on new seating in the set-piece Assembly Hall, we worked closely with the management team to enable their vision for the building, as well as with the local heritage officers to ensure that the approach to the historic fabric of the building was a shared one.

We delivered several phases of work from £10,000 to £250,000, including a new goods lift, new WCs, and new acoustic panels and balcony seating in the Assembly Hall.

Undertaking the works while the building remained open and operational was a challenge successfully achieved through close collaborative working with the client and contractor. During the works we uncovered historic terrazzo and mosaic floors which were restored, as well as other historic features, but all phases were completed on budget and to a high quality.
