Projects - architecture and planning practice

We develop our research interests through self-initiated and client-led work. Our particular interests and expertise lie in sustainability, new approaches to regeneration and community participation, and rural development.

Our ongoing research into self-build and rural housing typologies developed through our work at the Rural Studio, the Station Village design-research thesis, our writing on self-build and our experiments in our own backyard (literally). This built on previous research into urban housing, including a case study survey for Toronto-based social projects studio E-Y-E.

Hana Loftus resaarched all the case studies for the landmark survey of new approaches to regeneration, Design and Landscape for People, as well as contributing articles to other books and journals. On sustainability, Hana Loftus wrote for the website www.worldchanging.com and the best-selling book Worldchanging: A User's Guide to the 21st Century, and put this research into practice working with Suffolk County Council on their 'Greenest County' programme. Other past research includes a study of the role of architectural historiography in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Hana was recently runner-up for the inaugural AJ Writing Prize. She teaches and crits regularly at universities including London Metropolitan and the Architectural Association.
