"A little jewel of a gallery, beautifully considered and detailed." Hugh Pearman, Sunday Times [pdf]
"A building that honours its context and its content and creates new pleasures in the relationships between the two"Rowan Moore, The Observer [pdf]
The Jerwood Gallery is a £3.5m new gallery on the seafront in Hastings, housing the Jerwood Foundation's collection of modern British paintings and drawings, and a curated exhibitions programme of contemporary art across disciplines.
The building is an subtly faceted form clad in hand-glazed ceramic tiles. The gallery spaces draw in the views from the spectacular location and are designed as an intimate sequence which encourages a sense of exploration and surprise.
The gallery opened in March 2012, and has won an RIBA Award and Civic Trust Award. It was included in the Observer's top buildings of 2012.
