HAT Projects are the architects for a £4m new gallery for the Jerwood Foundation on the seafront in Hastings. The gallery will house Jerwood's collection of modern British art, with space for temporary exhibitions as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme.
The building is an subtly faceted form clad in hand-glazed ceramic tiles, enclosing carefully calibrated internal spaces drawing in the views from the spectacular location and encouraging a sense of exploration and surprise. Construction will complete later in 2011. [website]
